Excellent Advice To Help You With Pest Control

By Vincent Hoss

Just because pest control often is done by professionals does not mean you cannot take steps on your own. This article will go over the many ways that you’re able to deal with pests yourself, even if it involves calling someone else for assistance. Keep reading to learn more.

Use steel wool to plug up holes that mice can use to enter your house. The steel wool makes it nearly impossible for rodents to chew through. Any opening bigger than half an inch should be plugged. These rodents can come through small areas.

Do you have a recurring issue with fruit flies? The weak link might be your drains. Put a bit of plastic wrap across the drain for a while to determine whether or not fruit flies appear. If some do appear, drop boiling water into the drain and then scrub well. This should eradicate the fruit fly problem.

Bedbugs hide in a variety of locations, making them hard to completely get rid of. Prior to exterminating, close open holes. Thus, you can prevent bugs from escaping after your efforts are concluded.

Outside lights have their advantages but you should know these lights will attract pests. However, if you require outdoor lighting, then use pink, orange, or yellow bulbs because pests aren’t as attracted to these particular colors.

Do you have a problem with rodents in your house? If so, then start inspecting the outside of your home for any tiny openings that they could have squeezed themselves through. Put some repellent or scrubbing pads in these cracks to deter them from entering. A lot of times you can use odors to keep them away.

If you live with pets, steer clear of rodent poisons. Even if you do not think they will get into the poison they might eat a rat that has poison in it. Not only is bad for your pets, it is extremely bad if there are children present. They may put the pellets in their mouth.

In order to keep pests away from your edible items, make sure that you store them properly. Either plastic or glass works; just make sure whatever you get has a strong lid. Insects and rodents can easily chew through paper or cardboard packages.

Inspect your foundation and all walls for existing cracks. As the house settles, cracks and fissures can develop. Pests can use them as access points. Also, look at your ceiling. This can often be a source of small cracks that pests will use.

Enlist neighbors to help you control pests. In city areas you will have the same pest problems that your neighbors have. When your neighbors live particularly close, you can end up fighting a never ending battle with your pests. Ask your neighbors about helping you all live pest-free lives.

When using any chemicals, especially pesticides, read the manufacturer’s instructions closely. Don’t use more than what the directions say to use. In many cases, overusing pesticide won’t be any more effective and will also pose a health risk.

Seal up every crack you can find in your home with caulk to keep the pests out. Foggers and sprays are unable to penetrate walls and behind the cabinets where bugs like to live and hide. Seal the moldings around the sink, pipes, and where the wall meets your floor with caulk to prevent bugs from exiting and entering.

Do you feel confident about tackling your pest problem by yourself? Just put these tips to use and there should be no issue with controlling pests. Your hard work will pay off once the pest goes away for good.
