Get A Leg Up On Controlling Pests In The Home By Following These Tips!

By Vincent Hoss

Everyone hates living in a home with pests. It doesn’t matter what kind of pests are in your home; you need to eliminate them immediately to prevent damage to your home. The only way you can do this is to look at what other people have done that has helped them take care of things.

If you are experiencing problems with insects, be sure to vacuum all rugs and carpets throughout your home. You’ll rid your living room and kitchen of insects by sweeping them up. Put the vacuum bag in a plastic bag and set it in the sun for a day. Then throw it away.

The beginning is the place to start. When you have problems with pests, be sure you are not providing them with food. It is likely that pests are coming into your home due to food, water, or enough shelter. Find and eliminate factors, such as food crumbs, leaks and unsealed entry points in the home.

A perimeter spray will discourage pests from getting too close to your home. In addition to the foundation, you should spray porches, patios, steps and around windows and doors. Be sure to keep a lookout for cracks that may allow pests to enter your home. Use caulk or something similar to seal these areas.

Make sure that your screens are fully functional at all times. Screens on doors and windows keep both flying and crawling bugs out. Fix any holes you find and replace the screens if they are damaged.

Do you recycle and store items in your home? If so, then it is vital that these items are properly rinsed. It is very important to get rid of the soda in the cans. Ensure that the soda is properly rinsed out so that it is clean whenever you place it outside.

Even if you don’t think you have a problem, routinely check for one. If your house is underground, you might have underground termites. Therefore, make sure that your basements and other small areas of your home are check out regularly.

Do not give mosquitoes a breeding ground to hang out in. Get rid of any standing water near your home. Mosquitoes can breed in places that have water, like food cans or anything that can hold a little water.

Drains are a common place in which pests can be found. Flush out these pests by cleaning your drains every month, either by using a snake or by using a liquid cleaner. Debris and other things can cause mold to grow inside them, giving pests a great place to live.

Hairspray can be used to kill flying insects. Hairspray will not harm your pets, but does kill bugs effectively. The spray sticks to them disabling them from flying to food or water. This is a great option if you happen to have a bee fly in your home and do not want to get too close.

If you notice a hole in your floor or walls that looks like is made by a mouse, you should stuff the hole with a little bit of steel wool. Rodents will eat steel wool and eventually die. Fill in the whole with spackle containing steel wool to prevent new holes from being created.

To get rid of pests, you need to educate yourself. Know the particulars about it, like what it eats and its life cycle. Pest knowledge helps you better devise a plan.

Make sure the walls and foundation of your home are not cracked. As a home ages, it develops cracks and other structural changes. Pests will use these cracks as pathways into your home. Check the ceiling, too. This can sometimes be the place that pests use to infiltrate your home.

Pests may be attracted to recycle bins. The best case scenario involves keeping recycling outdoors. If you aren’t able to do this, rinse out everything before putting it in the recycling bin. The best chance you have at avoiding pests when you throw your garbage out is to buy recycling containers that are sealed.

If cockroaches are a recurring problem, make sure all food is sealed in airtight containers. If you have open containers, then you should ensure that they are sealed inside Tupperware or zip-top bags. Do not simply clip the top of the container with a paperclip. Cockroaches are attracted to all kinds of food. Put your baking supplies in containers with a tight seal as well.

Use your hairspray to kill flying pests. Perfume will also work. Make sure you do not get these substances in your eyes. Both of these are flammable, so keep them away from open flames. If you don’t have any bug spray, these two items will work well.

Fight your fight against wasp nests and beehives at night. Hardware stores sell certain sprays that let homeowners remove them on their own. You can kill bees using foam from the hardware store. It is best to spray the hive at night when the bees are not as active and then monitor it for a couple of days and respray if necessary. The hive can safely be removed once you are certain that there are no more bees alive.

Clean up your house to get rid of pests. Although catch-all spots are convenient, they are a bad idea. Try reducing your clutter to remove these many nesting places for rodents and bugs.

Use these pest control tips to get rid of your bug or rodent problem. Give each idea a try and stick with the one you like best. Soon your home will be pest free. You’ll be so glad you put the effort in and got the job done.
