Got A Pest Problem? Try These Tips

By Vincent Hoss

Not many things are more annoying than pests in your home. Pests come in a lot of different shapes and sizes. Ants, mice and flies are just a few. Some pests can do significant damage to your home, such as termites. The following tips will help you deal with pests in the most effective way possible.

Do you have a constant problem battling fruit flies? You might have a drain issue. Tape a piece of plastic wrap over drains for a couple of days, and see if these pesky little flies pop up. If you find some, pour a little boiling water down the drain and then scrub it well. That should help you avoid breeding fruit flies.

One of the ways that you can kill hornets, wasps or bees around your house is to spray them with hairspray. There are numerous chemicals in hairspray that will not only kill insects, but repel them as well.

To prevent insects from getting in your home, spray the outside of it with perimeter spray. Spray your foundation, your steps, porch and any areas that are near windows and doors. When you’re spraying, look for crevices and cracks that make entry points for pests. Seal such spots with caulking or other material.

If there are cracks and crevices around your house, be sure they are sealed as quickly as possible. These are just the places that pests love to find as they are looking for ways to get inside. Getting them sealed will block pests from getting inside.

Outside lights have their advantages but you should know these lights will attract pests. If you really need outdoor lighting, choose the color of the light carefully. Pink, orange and yellow lights attract the fewest pests.

Check the plumbing in your house, if you have pests. Make sure that all sinks and drains are unclogged, both in and around your home. This organic buildup attracts many insects. Whenever you clean out your drains, you should make sure that you check them on a monthly basis.

If your home is infested with insects or other vermin, you may be able to get professional help. Sales associates in the home improvement store can show you the best products to eliminate your problem. They should be able to tell you which pesticides work for what kinds of pests.

Consider using hairspray to kill flying insects. Hairspray is inherently safe for you, your family and your precious pets, but it works wonders on insects. It works by immobilizing the insects, leaving them incapable of getting water or food. You can use it to kill a bee, for instance, that you don’t wish to get too near to.

If you use pesticides, ensure that you always follow the label instructions. Although you may believe that more product can lead to better results, this isn’t typically true. Typically, using too much of it only serves to increase hazards to the health of those who may come in contact with the substance.

Seal all the cracks in your house with caulk to help combat a bug problem. Foggers and sprays aren’t able to reach deep within walls, or behind places that bugs love to live and hide. So, seal these areas off to prevent bugs. Use caulk around drain entry points, at molding spaces and any other small areas where bug can come in.

Do not put off dealing with a pest problem. The best time to start dealing with it is now. The tips contained in this article will help you do just that. Before you know it, the pests will just be a distant memory.
