Need To Control The Pests In Your Home? Read On.

By Vincent Hoss

Pests are pestering people in homes across the globe. Even if you are an animal lover, you probably want most of them to stay outside. Getting rid of these little intruders is not as hard as you might think. This article will give you some great advice for eliminating your pest problem.

Begin at the beginning. You must get to the root of your pest issues. Pests are probably attracted to your home because there is a source of water, available food, and adequate shelter. Leaks, entry points, and food scraps need to all be eliminated.

Look around your house for standing water. Pests love standing water because it is a drinking source and also a breeding ground for certain insects. Inspect your home carefully for leaky pipes and remember to empty all of the trays that are underneath your indoor plants. Pests require water to thrive, so getting rid of it will make it that much harder for pests to live in your home.

Fleas are hard to eradicate, but you have several options in how to rid your home of the fleas and their eggs. First, vacuum every day and use flea sprays. Remember to throw away your vacuum bag after vacuuming your house.

Mint is a great deterrent for keeping mice away. Mint should be planted around your home’s perimeter. This makes your home less than desirable to mice. When you sprinkle mint leaves in various areas of your home, it will keep mice away. Most of the time, this will act as good repellent, but the mint leaves must be fresh.

If you routinely collect recyclables, be certain they are always well-rinsed. Specifically watch out for soda cans, as the sugars in sodas attract many different pests. Make sure that you rinse all of the soda out so when you put it outside or in your garage it is clean.

Outdoor lighting makes it easy for people to find your home at night and deters thieves, but it is also a beacon for pests. Choose bulbs in colors of pink, orange or yellow if you want pests to be less attracted.

You may find electronic pest repellents to be super effective. They are plugged into outlets and emit sounds that repel vermin. They aren’t dangerous for pets or humans in the home. Rodents will leave the area because the noise is unpleasant, not because it is harmful.

Avoid using mouse and rat poisons if you have free-running pets in the home. If your cat or dog catches a sick rodent or plays with a dead one, it can ingest the poison. This bait is not recommended around kids either. Mouse poison can look like candy, so steer clear of this with children in your home.

Hairspray can kill many flying insects. Hairspray is safe for you and your pets, but not for flying insects. The pests will become sticky with the hairspray and won’t be able to get to water or food. If you have a bee flying around, this method can help prevent it from getting too close to you.

Check your walls and foundation for cracks. As a home ages, it develops cracks and other structural changes. These are able to be used for entry by pests that are small. Look at your ceiling as well. Pests get in through tiny cracks here as well.

The previous article was about getting rid of all sorts of pests. You do not need to use poisons or call an exterminator for your pest problems. Take the advice you have been shown here and create a better living environment that is free of pests.
