Rescue Your Home From The Pesky Pests

By Vincent Hoss

All homeowners will come in contact with pests. To free your home from pests, you must understand the right methods of pest control. When you have the know-how, you can keep pests at bay.

Vacuuming the rugs and carpets within the home is a great secret for reducing the pest problems. Vacuuming picks up ants, bugs, cockroaches and other insects that are living inside your home. When you are finished, dispose of the bag.

Use sticky traps in order to snare the brown recluse spiders in your home. You can’t always get pesticides deep in the recesses where these spiders like to hang out. They tend to hunt for food overnight. Place traps along walls and behind furniture for the best chance of nabbing them.

Use a perimeter spray if you want to keep bugs away from your home. Spray around windows and doors, porches and steps and your foundation. Keep your eyes open for cracks around the exterior of the home. Caulk these areas immediately so that pests have no way into your home.

People that struggle with flying bugs must repair the screens inside their homes. These screens can help stop bugs from entering your home. If there are holes in the screens, be sure to repair them to keep bugs from getting inside.

Seal any cracks or crevices that you may have in your home right away. A lot of the time these places are seen as an entrance to pests that are looking for a new place to live. By thoroughly sealing these off, you deny them a gateway into your home.

If you have a pile of recyclables you keep each week, be sure you rinse them out. Specifically watch out for soda cans, as the sugars in sodas attract many different pests. Try to get out all the soda so you don’t add the container to your trash filled with a substance that will draw bugs.

Avoid mosquitoes by taking away common areas they breed. Get rid of any area of standing water. It is possible for mosquitoes to breed in very tiny areas of water, including the water that is left over from leftover food.

Use plastic storage containers when storing dry food items. Many dry products come in boxes and bags, which is easy access for pests. Store your dry goods in tightly sealed containers as soon as you get home from the store. Use plastic to store food and you can keep it fresh and pest free.

Use hairspray to kill flying insects. Hairspray is totally safe for humans, but deadly for insects. It sticks to the bugs, which makes it impossible for them to make their way to food and water. This is ideal for a single bee that’s made its way into your home.

If you find a mouse hole in your walls or floors, cuts small pieces of steel wool and stuff into the hole. The mice or rats will eat it and they’ll end up dying. Once the rodents are dead, spackle the holes with some steel wool mixed in with wood putty to keep them from coming back.

Look around your foundation and check your walls for cracks. Older houses are sure to have cracks and openings all around the foundations. Pests can use them as access points. Check the ceiling, too. You’ll often find small cracks that are accessible to pests.

When you have flying bugs inside your home, use hairspray to kill them. If you don’t have hairspray available, try perfume. These are flammable so be careful around fire. If you don’t have any bug spray on you, hairspray or perfume can be a great way to get rid of pests.

Clean up your house to get rid of pests. There are many areas in the home that are clutter magnets, like bookshelves counters, and tables. Declutter these areas and you can eliminate many places in which pests like to hide.

To prevent insects from invading your house, keep all bushes and flowers at least a couple of feet from all entrance points. If you can, cover space between the home and the flowers with tiles. When you don’t have to be concerned about flying bugs, you can leave your windows open.

If you see damage in wood work, examine the rings that are in the wood. If these areas are damaged, the problem is not termites, as termites avoid eating these rings and instead go for soft wood. If there is no damage, termites are your problem.

Houseflies are easily controlled with traditional ideas. Use sticky strips and fly-swatters to do an admirable job. But they have none of the contaminates or chemical impact of sprays. Spray methods ought to be utilized only according to the label’s instructions.

Do you compost your garden? ` Compost can attract bugs. To keep the compost but prevent pests from coming in your home, place it a safe distance away from the house and keep pets and kids away from it. Make sure the compost is not near plants, so that bugs do not cause them damage.

If you have a really critical pest control problem, think about changing all of your small appliances. See if a loved one can give you extra appliances, and throw away the ones you have. Bugs love to crawl into the inside corners of appliances.

If your problem keeps coming back, look for the pests’ point of entrance. While you can score a real bargain at the thrift store, you can also bring home some unwanted pests as well. Inspect everything that enters your home.

Pests are drawn to dark and damp places. Do your best to eliminate any standing water in your home. Pests thrive on these wet spots. You can eliminate your pests by keeping these trouble areas ventilated and dry.
