Tips About Managing Pests And How To Get Rid Of Them

By Vincent Hoss

You are not alone if you think you are the only one with a pest issue. These pests belong outside. Taking a home back from a pest or two can be done if you read this article. Keep reading to see how to get rid of pests.

Do you have a recurring problem with fruit flies? You may have to check your drain for consistency. Source which drain is of particular concern for the fruit flies and place a piece of plastic wrap over it to see if they appear there. Next, you may want to use boiling water to get rid of these pests by pouring it into the drain. That will kill off the breeding cycle which was going on.

If you have a brown recluse spider issue, try catching them using sticky traps. These poisonous spiders hide in deep recesses that are difficult to reach with chemicals. At night, they come out to look for food. Put traps behind furniture and along the walls in order to have a good chance at catching them.

Never buy a house without having it inspected for bugs first. It can be easy to spot some infestations, but those under your home on inside the walls won’t be visible until a few days have passed.

Do you find that you are battling ants in your home? You can remove them by creating a mixture of borax and sugar. The sugar will attract your pests while the borax kills them. All you need is a cup of both sugar and borax and a jar. Place holes in that lid, then sprinkle it along your foundation and baseboards.

If you have a problem with mice and rats, make sure any new trees you plant are sufficiently far from your house. This makes it easy for rodents to climb and then enter your house through the roof or attic. Plant them far from your home, about 15 feet away.

That same outdoor lighting you use to keep intruders away at night, or light the path for your guests, may also be attracting pests. If you really need outdoor lighting, choose the color of the light carefully. Pink, orange and yellow lights attract the fewest pests.

If pests and bugs are driving you to distraction, help may be at hand. Consult the professionals at your local home improvement outlet for advice to rid yourself of these pests. The staff can recommend a pesticide or other product that you can use to get rid of your pests.

Check every foot of your home for pests, as no area is immune. Underground areas of your home may be infested with termites. Be sure to have crawl spaces and basements inspected.

Have you seen rodents in your home? You should check your home’s exterior to find small cracks through which small animals can squeeze. If you find any cracks fill them up with steel wool pads or poison. You could also try repellents with a strong aroma, such as strong oils.

Pests tend to thrive in drains. Give your drains a monthly cleaning using either a drain snake or drain cleaning chemicals. Pipes accumulate mold and other growth that pests are attracted to.

To get rid of pests forever, you have to find out what you can about them. Learn the life cycle and the feeding habits of this pest. The more you know about a pest, the easier it will be to devise a way to eliminate it.

If you’re trying to battle a mouse or rat problem on your own, keep this in mind: mice and rats will eat almost anything. Peanut butter, cheese, meat, jelly, etc. can all work in a trap. In addition, a spoiled food item will also work, so if you are needing to eliminate spoiled food, this can be a great way of doing so.

Read all the directions on the labels on pesticides before use. Don’t use more than what the directions say to use. Usually, using more of these products just increases health risks.

Hairspray can help kill the flying bugs. You may also use perfume, but avoid eye contact. And keep in mind that perfume and hairspray are flammable products and should not be sprayed if there is an open flame in the room. If you don’t have a can of bug spray on hand, these two alternatives are a good quick fix.

If you are trying to get rid of houseflies, then it is best to use old-fashioned tricks. Sticky tape and fly swatters are effective in killing them. They also won’t pollute your home with toxic chemicals. Sprays should only be used when you follow the instructions to ensure the safety of pets and people.

Is there compost present in your garden? This can actually bring on the bugs. If you love your compost, put it in a bin or keep it away form your house. Keep your compost away from your plants too since the bugs attracted by the compost might start eating your plants.

Find out how ants are getting in. You need to track down their entry point. When you locate it, there are many things you can do to be sure they are unable to come in anymore. Use some citrus oil, cinnamon, lemon juice, coffee grounds or cayenne pepper.

We hope that the tips presented here will help you get the pests out of your house. Pest control isn’t only done with the help of poisons. Apply the advice in this piece to get your house free from pests.
