Use This Helpful Advice And Say Goodbye To Those Annoying Pests

By Vincent Hoss

How well informed are you when it comes to pest control? There a lot of information to take in. Allow this article to be your guide to controlling pests yourself. Use the advice offered below to help you tackle your own pest problems.

Begin at square-one. If you have trouble with pests, figure out what they’re eating. Pests probably like to come into your home because they have shelter, food and plenty of water. Fix any leaks, seal any cracks, and remove scraps of food that pests may eat.

Make certain to check local ordinances and codes to find out which types of pest control are allowed in your area. Sometimes, the use of a locally banned substance can end up hurting you if you end up selling your home later. While this is pretty rare in occurrence, it does give you motivation to research what pest control methods are approved and successful in your community.

If your home has been infested by bedbugs and you believe you have totally eradicated them, be careful. Bedbugs can go upwards of a year without any food. For this reason, you need to make sure you seal all holes and cracks in your floors and walls. They cannot hide there then.

Make sure that your screens are fully functional at all times. Not only do they keep out the flying pests, but they help to keep out small crawling insects as well. If you have any holes in your screens, fix them so the bugs cannot get in.

Anytime you put brushes around your home, ensure you put them a minimum of one foot away. This can be a meeting ground for insects that you do not want in your home. Placing them too close to your entry points or windows can risk having them go inside your home.

Look around your house for any cracks or places that pests could enter, and seal them right away. These are one of the most common entry points for bugs into a home. They fit between even the tiniest cracks. Eliminating the crevice can create a barrier between your home and the pests.

Fleas can be tough to eliminate, but there are ways to approach them. The first things to do are to start vacuuming daily and using a flea spray. Also, throw away the bag when you are finished vacuuming to rid them for good.

Mint will repel mice and other pest as well. Just plant mint all around your foundation. These plants will repel mice. If mice is living in your home, you can sprinkle mint leaves all around the area where you see signs of mice. While this will usually do, make sure the mint leaves are fresh.

When trees fall down in your yard, get rid of them. Hack up the trunk and limbs for use as firewood. You can either use it yourself, sell it, or even give it away. But, do not forget to get rid of the stump as well. Stumps are large pieces of dead wood that may attract termites.

Are rodents coming into your home? You need to look at your home’s exterior for small openings that animals can squeeze through. Fill any cracks you find with scouring pads, or fill them with poison. Mustard oil may also work as a repellent too.

Avoid mosquitoes by taking away common areas they breed. Drain any place where water just stands. Mosquitoes can breed in almost any amount of standing water, so get rid of it near your home.

In order to keep pests away from your edible items, make sure that you store them properly. Glass or plastic containers are ideal, but they need a lid with a tight seal. Paper bags and cardboard are the worst options, as pests can eat through them easily.

Exterior lights can be prime sources of pests. Avoid placing such lights near your home’s entrance points. Orange and yellow lights attract fewer bugs than traditional incandescent bulbs.

If you are fighting mice or rats on your won, remember this: they eat anything. Peanut butter, cheese, savory foods, cheese and more are all great for traps. You can also use spoiled foods in traps.

If you have a cockroach problem, keep all food in sealed containers. Store open containers in plastic bags or Tupperware for a tight seal. Any type of food left out can keep roaches around. Make sure to keep all baking ingredients such as sugar and flour, safely sealed in containers.

If you find that bugs can easily get into your home, buy some caulk and seal up those cracks. Foggers and sprays are unable to penetrate walls and behind the cabinets where bugs like to live and hide. Use the caulk on the molding between walls and floors, around sinks or tubs, and around your pipes where they enter your home.

If you are having a problem with bugs, you might think about how you are applying your pesticide. If you are spraying for pests outside, they may stay inside. Spray inside first, then go outside and spray.

Use the tips from this article to gain back control of your house. Remember, all pests are annoying, and even though they are tough to remove, it’s your job to do so. You have some tools now to help you accomplish this. Use the advice from this article to protect yourself from pests right away.
