What Are The Best Tips About Pest Control?

By Vincent Hoss

Finding pests in your beloved home can be devastating. There are a lot of places you can have pests entering your abode. Pests can still enter your home even if you keep the door closed and clean regularly. The following article discusses some of the ways you can keep pests under control.

Use steel wool to fill mouse holes. Even though mice can chew through quite a few things, these aren’t able to be chewed with their teeth. Seal any small holes and cracks you see. The pests can enter your home through very small openings.

If you have seen a lot of brown recluse spiders, get some sticky traps. These harmful spiders spend their time in hard to reach areas that are not easily accessible for chemicals. They do come out at night to search for food. Put traps behind furniture and along the walls in order to have a good chance at catching them.

All food should be carefully stored away in sealed containers when not in use. Many pests love the smell of food, so keep it contained to keep them away. Whenever your trashcan becomes full, you should immediately take it out. Pests are also attracted to the scent of garbage.

Fleas are a tough pest, but there are things you can work on to improve the situation. You need to vacuum daily, and use a flea spray. Also, throw away the bag when you are finished vacuuming to rid them for good.

Quickly remove fallen trees from your yard. All you have to do is chop up the tree and burn it. If you do not have a need for this, sell it or give it to neighbors and friends. Don’t just let the stump rot in your yard, though. Termites will make a beeline for the stump if it just left outside.

If you have cats and dogs, never use rat poison. Your dog could get sick from catching a poisoned rodent. Poison and other dangerous chemicals are a problem if you have young children. They may believe the poison pellets are candy.

If a rodents have come into your home via a hole in the wall, use steel wool to take care of the problem. The mice or rats will eat it and they’ll end up dying. Wood putty mixed with steel wool makes for a great spackle.

If you want to keep bugs and other pests from your food, be careful how you’re storing it. Either plastic or glass works; just make sure whatever you get has a strong lid. Avoid using a paper or cardboard bag when packing up food because these things are easily chewed through.

Do you like recycling? If so, then this may be attracting pests. Any recycled materials should be kept outside of the house. If you do not have room in your garage, make sure you rinse all the containers you want to recycle. Recycling bins that are sealed are the best choice to keep out pests of all sizes.

Use this technique to trap silverfish. Take a wet newspaper and leave it out overnight. Silverfish tend to congregate in the damp newspaper. Many people have found this tip helpful. Be sure to snatch them up quickly so they do not have a chance to run, and then deposit the paper in the trash outside.

When utilizing pesticides, be sure to follow the instructions on the package. It may be intuitive to think that more is always better when it comes to pesticide, but that doesn’t always hold true. Often, when you use more, you endanger creatures other than the pests.

If you keep clutter down, you will keep the bugs away. Your home has many places that are utilized as a catch-all, such as tables, bookshelves, counters, etc. Keep your home as clean as possible and put the clutter away to reduce the amount of places where bugs and small rodents could hide.

One good way to prevent bugs from entering your house is by keeping flowers and plants an appropriate distance from the home. If possible, cover the ground around your home with some tiles to keep bugs and rodents away. You will also be more relaxed about leaving windows open when you don’t have to be concerned about bugs coming in.

This article has discussed some great methods you can use to get rid of common pests. As you can tell, you’re not the only one with pest issues! In fact, pests are a problem just about everywhere. Apply the knowledge you have gained, and take control of the situation.
